Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Cairo Welcome at Cairo airport. Transfer and installation in your hotel. Overnight at hotel in Cairo.
Day 2
Memphis – Saqqara – Giza Plateau Breakfast at the hotel and departure for a day of visits: The site of Memphis: It contains the remains of the oldest political and religious capital of Egypt. It was founded in 3200 BC by the legendary king Menes, the unifier of Upper and Lower Egypt. It is located on the eastern bank of the Nile, the capital of Egypt for over a millennium and a major religious center. It is also the seat of the cult of the god Ptah. The site of Saqqara: It is a vast funerary complex that contains the necropolis of the dignitaries and the so-called "step" pyramid of King Djoser (the founder of the 3rd pharaonic dynasty, around 2700 BC). This pyramid represents the first attempt at pyramid construction. It is considered the first stone construction in the world. The Giza Plateau: the flagship site of the Pharaonic civilization with its three famous pyramids "Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinos" as well as the Sphinx , in limestone, enigmatic and gigantic with a human head and the body of a lion, raised as guardian of the necropolis. Day 3
Egyptian Museum – Saladin Citadel – Khan El-Khalili / Aswan Breakfast at the hotel and departure for a day excursion to discover: The Egyptian Museum in Cairo : Located in the city center, in a neoclassical building, perfectly suited to its exquisite collections. The Egyptian Museum in Cairo opened its doors in 1902. It has since expanded considerably to become the largest museum of Egyptian art in the world. With over 150,000 objects, the museum houses an incredible collection of exhibits that depict the glorious reign of ancient Egypt, from the predynastic period to the Roman period. The Citadel of Saladin : Built in the 12th century AD by the famous Saladin. This gigantic building housed the palaces of the sultan of the time and was the seat of power until the end of the 19th century . This building also has two mosques; the largest is the mosque of Mohamed-Ali which dates from the Ottoman era in the 19th century, entirely in alabaster. Its architectural style is directly inspired by mosques in Istanbul. It has a vast dome 21m in diameter, the summit of which rises to 52m. The second mosque dates from the Mamluk era (1315). It is the mosque of El-Nasser Mohammed, the sultan who had it built. Khan El-Khallili Souk: A labyrinth of small streets that are lively day and night, engaging the senses with a mixture of images, sounds, scents and colors. Khan El-Khallili is the oldest bazaar in the world. It has been occupied by traders since the 14th century . Transfer to Cairo airport to take the flight to Aswan Welcome at Aswan airport. Day 4
Philae and the unfinished obelisk / Abu Simbel: sound and light Breakfast at the hotel and departure to discover the historical sites of Aswan: The Temple of Philae ; it is a historical site of great importance, located on an island in the middle of the Nile. Arriving there by motorboat gives a deep feeling in front of the beauty of the setting of the place. Philae is dedicated to the goddess ISIS. It is characterized by its romantic setting, its remarkable architecture and its refined frescoes and the elegance of its walls, columns and chapels. The unfinished obelisk; a granite quarry widely exploited in antiquity, at the time of the pharaohs, to sculpt colossal statues and obelisks. This quarry still contains a failed obelisk which would have been the largest obelisk in ancient Egypt with its 42m high and its 1200 tons of weight, but because of cracks that occurred during its carving, it was abandoned on site In the early afternoon, departure for Abu Simbel (260 km) In the late afternoon, arrive in Abu Simbel and check into your hotel Attend the sound and light show of the magnificent Abu Simbel site Overnight at hotel in Abu Simbel
Day 5
Abu Simbel / Aswan: boarding the felucca Breakfast at the hotel and departure for the visit of the majestic site of Abu Simbel : The site of Abu Simbel includes two temples built in the 13th century BC by the most famous of the pharaohs: Ramses II. This site is fascinating for its colors and the paintings of its frescoes still in good condition. It is mind-blowing by the size of its colossi so pharaonic! At the end of the morning, take the road back to Aswan. In the early afternoon, we will board our felucca. Lunch on board and start sailing north to the rhythm of the wind while enjoying a thousand-year-old landscape. You will let yourself be rocked by the water and open your eyes wide to be privileged witnesses of the daily life of the inhabitants of the villages. Landing at Koubanya , a typical village of Upper Egypt; and walk in this village and its Wadi which touches the desert. You will enjoy a splendid sunset on a height of Wadi Koubanya. Day 6
Koubanya – Herbiab – Daraw Breakfast on board and resumed navigation towards the island of Herbiab. Docking at Herbiab, an island with a very beautiful sandy beach where you can have a baptism in the blessed water of the Nile! Lunch on board and return to Daraw Docking in Daraw. Dinner and overnight on board
Day 7
Daraw – Kom ombo – Meniha island Breakfast and a change of scenery guaranteed in Daraw where you can experience highlights by soaking up the daily life of Egyptian villagers. You can also stroll through the chaos of the popular market where the colors and scents of the Orient and Africa are mixed together as a symphony for the eyes and nose, it's truly exotic!Return to the boat, resume navigation towards Kom Ombo and lunch on board. During our stopover in Kom Ombo , we visit the magnificent Greco-Roman temple, built in honor, with the exception of all the other sanctuaries of the time, of two gods, instead of one; Sobek (with the head of the crocodile) and Horus (with the head of the falcon). It dominates the Nile by about twenty meters, forming a majestic loop at its feet. It exudes a captivating charm by the finesse of its columns and its frescoes under the colors of the sunset. A short sail to Meniha Island to dock and spend the night. Dinner and overnight on board.
Day 8
Meniha Island – Farès - Silssila Navigation to the village of Farès, walk in the village of Farès, it is one of several opportunities to meet the peasants and discover their way of life. Lunch and return to Silssila . Short walk to reach the pharaonic quarries of Silssila . Visit the quarries that provided sandstone for the main temples of Luxor as well as the well-sculpted chapels and steles on the site and especially the temple (spéos) of King Horemheb, dug into the rock.
Day 9
Edfu - Luxor After breakfast we bid farewell to our crew and depart by private vehicle to Luxor and explore on the way: The Temple of Edfu: A Ptolemaic marvel, it is one of the most impressive feats of the Ptolemaic dynasty buildings, dating from the 2nd century BC. Dedicated to the god Horus. Its design and architecture correspond to the typical style of pharaonic temples. Take the road back to Luxor "110 km" - Arrival and check-in at the hotel in Luxor. At the end of the afternoon, departure for the visit of the temple of Luxor; dedicated to the god Amon and the celebrations in his honor. Its gigantic façade, the colossal statues and the colonnade of Amenhotep3 sum up in themselves, but in a masterful way, the history of this grandiose temple. It best represents the schematic plan of an Egyptian temple with its elegant path of the sphinx, its gigantic façade formerly preceded by two magnificent obelisks; one is still in place and the other has been on the Place Concorde in Paris since 1834 ...! Day 10
Breakfast at the hotel and departure for the west bank of Luxor to discover: The two Colossi of Memnon; 17m giants which stand at the entrance to a large temple erected by King Amenhotep III during the 15th century BC. The Valley of the Kings; it is in the limestone rock of the Theban mountain in this valley which is located at the edge of the fertile plain on the left bank of Luxor that almost all the pharaohs of the New Kingdom, such as Ramses2, Amenhotep3, Tutankhamun and many others, chose to have their tombs dug. There are officially sixty-three of them, reported in order of discovery. The tombs of the Valley of the Kings are characterized by their refined sculptures and their well-preserved colors. Visit the temple of Queen Hatshepsut; the first feminist in history, the only one who defied the rules of the transmission of the throne and became pharaoh! Her temple also stands out from the architectural scheme of the time with three terraces superimposed against the mountain, thus creating a balanced harmony that delights the eyes. Return to the hotel at the end of the morning In the middle of the afternoon, departure for the visit of the religious complex of Karnak : An immense historical complex, built on approximately 60 hectares, covering a pharaonic period which extends from 20th to 4th century BC. Karnak is a splendid site with its gigantic facade, its colossal statues, its giant obelisks, its majestic hypostyle hall, its sacred lake ... and many other architectural and artistic wonders.
